Catholic Education Week (MAY 9-16)
As Catholics, we are invited to reflect on the gift of Catholic education in this Catholic Education Week, declared by the Bishops of Saskatchewan.
Even before Saskatchewan was a province, Catholic schools were established to assist families in passing on the Catholic faith. For more than a century, Catholic education has been an integral part of our rich history.
In Prince Albert, the Catholic school division (est. 1887) has a proud tradition of providing quality Catholic education. By offering our students numerous opportunities to enrich their faith and grow in their relationship with God and each other, that tradition continues today. We experience education as a faith community in a caring, nurturing, Christian environment. Our students learn that they are loved unconditionally by God and that each one is a precious gift, given by God, to enrich our world.
Although we have a rich legacy, we cannot take for granted that our Catholic schools will continue to thrive in a society that often challenges Christian moral values. Now more than ever, we need to speak prophetically, challenging others to recognize that there is meaning in life when you believe in God and strive to live by the example Jesus gave us.
We are proud of all past and present students, families, staff, religious and clergy who have made our schools great places to learn and grow. As we celebrate Catholic Education Week, let us be thankful for the many gifts God has blessed us with and recognize that we all have a part to play in strengthening Catholic education, not only for this present generation but future generations as well.
